How a General Contractor Met Critical Deadlines for a Federal Construction Project

About This Business
A family-owned general contracting company with locations in Florida and Pennsylvania, it specializes in federal construction projects and has been in business for over 50 years. The company came to Labor Finders Alexandria in Louisiana because it needed to staff skilled painters and general laborers for a federal project that was already behind schedule due to a previous contractor going out of business.
Our Staffing Solution*
We met with the project manager to learn the specific job skills and requirements for the professional painters they needed for this project. Armed with that information, we recruited and interviewed job candidates with the help of our company’s senior recruiter. Because we already had an established working relationship with this construction company, there was no need to undergo the vetting process of becoming an approved subcontractor.
To ensure that our future and present workers understood the safety rules and procedures for this job site, our branch manager attended the general contracting company's safety meetings.
Challenges We Overcame Together*
We recruited eight workers for this month-long project who were not fluent in English. Therefore, it proved difficult to train them not only to do the various jobs we were recruiting them for but also to ensure they were aware of the protocols of the job site. So, we enlisted one of the professional painters we’ve worked with previously to act as a Spanish translator. As a result, we could train these workers and place them with the contractor.
The General Contractor’s Results
After months of continuously sending qualified skilled and unskilled workers to their job site, the general contracting company could meet the new deadline instituted by their core engineer on the federal project. If the company had used another staffing agency, it would have taken them an extra two to three months to complete the project. They were also so pleased with our associates; seven skilled workers and two general laborers crossed the bridge and are now working full-time for the general contracting company.
